OSHA has fined the Dollar Tree company for violations inspectors said they found at a store on Veterans Parkway in Bloomington.

The U.S. Labor Department said it will fine Dollar Tree $233,255 for repeat violations at a Bloomington store.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said inspections Dec. 13 at 1407 North Veterans Parkway showed obstructed exit routes, blocked fire extinguishers, and unstable stacks of stored merchandise that posed a hazard. The citations involve fire hazards and potential risks to worker safety from toppling merchandise.

“This employer is responsible for ensuring that every store implements required safety precautions to protect employees on the job,” said OSHA Peoria Area Director Barry Salerno. “OSHA will continue to use enforcement tools to ensure employers comply with their obligation to keep workers safe.”

OSHA previously cited Dollar Tree for violations at the store on Morrissey Avenue in Bloomington in 2018. OSHA said other violations have occurred at company stores in Aurora, Texas, New York, Florida, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Montana, Delaware, Georgia, Colorado, and Connecticut over a period of years.

The company has until April 30 to respond and request a conference with the Labor Department or notify the government it intends to contest the penalty.
