McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage has announced the county jail will allow visitors again starting Monday.
The McLean County Jail was the first jail in the state to ban visitors when the pandemic hit in March.
The ban forced visitors to use video conferencing to talk with loved ones in custody. Several inmate rights groups called the cost of the video calls excessive and asked the county to reduce the cost, but a County Board committee voted against it.
The sheriff said visitors will have to observe all social-distancing guidelines and will have to wear face covering. He said the jail won't provide any masks for visitors.
Sandage said he placed the jail on lockdown in April to try to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The jail also reduced its inmate population by processing minor offenses on the streets. Judges suspended weekend and work release sentences.
