The McLean County Health Department announced 14 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

According to the McLean County Health Department, the county has 61 active cases, with two patients hospitalized and 59 people isolating at home.

Fifteen patients have died, and 288 residents have been released from isolation and are considered recovered.

County health department administrator Jessica McKnight said many of the recent reported cases are tied to Fourth of July gatherings, birthday parties and family get-togethers.

“The more people that someone interacts with, and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading,” said McKnight, noting McLean County also is experiencing community spread of the virus.

“Some people testing positive for COVID-19 are not able to pinpoint when or where they may have become infected,” said McKnight, adding contact tracers also have found small clusters of cases among families and household contacts. "We also continue to see cases in McLean County related to traveling, whether that be people who have gone to, or had visitors from states that are seeing increases in their case numbers such as Texas, Florida, Arizona, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Tennessee."

The county’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 2.5% on Friday and the positivity rate since the start of the pandemic remains 2% based on 17,800 tests.
