McLean County health officials announced 17 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, giving the county its highest seven-day total of 69 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.
The 17 new cases tie for the second highest single-day total since the pandemic began.
"We are seeing community spread of COVID-19 in McLean County," said McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight. "Any interaction with someone outside of your household could be a risk for infection."
The new cases push the county’s total of confirmed cases to 402. Of those, 75 cases are active, with two patients hospitalized and 73 in isolation. Fifteen patients have died and 312 people have been released from quarantine and are considered to be recovered, according to health department.
The county's seven-day testing positivity rate is 2.3%, while the positivity rate since the start of the pandemic stands at 2.1%, based on more than 19,200 tests completed.
Young adults continue to drive the higher infection totals. More than 100 cases are from people in their 20s. That’s easily the highest among any age group.
Rural testing
The county health department has established weekly COVID-19 testing clinics throughout McLean County to expand access for rural residents, through a partnership with Chestnut Health Systems. The first one will be Thursday at Colfax at the village office parking lot at 307 N. Harrison St.
Drive-thru and walk-up testing will be available from 9 a.m. to noon, weather permitting.
The sites will use the self-administered nasal swab tests, McKnight said.
The COVID-19 testing site at the Interstate Center in Bloomington saw its third-highest total of tests conducted Monday (421). The site continues to see heavy traffic in recent weeks. The site run by Pekin-based Reditus has averaged 352 daily tests since July 6. The site closed five hours early on Sunday due to the threat of severe storms.
