The McLean County Health Department announced 18 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.

McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight said most of the recent cases are tied to travel or household contacts with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“While we continue to see community spread of the virus, we are starting to see more of our cases able to identify an exposure to someone else that has tested COVID-19 positive,” McKnight said.

She added McLean County also has experienced a rise in positive cases among children and young adults, which reflects state and national trends.

“The highest percentage of our cases are still those 20 to 29 years old, but we have also seen cases recently among those 10 and younger,” McKnight said.

Currently, the county has 76 active cases, including two people who are hospitalized and 74 who are isolating at home. The health department reports 338 people have completed their time in quarantine and are considered recovered. Fifteen patients have died.

McLean County’s seven-day testing positivity rate rose slightly to 2.5% while the positivity rate since the start of the pandemic remains 2.1%.

The health department indicates the county has surpassed 20,000 COVID-19 tests.

The COVID-19 testing site at the Interstate Center in Bloomington conducted 401 tests on Wednesday and has performed more than 400 tests each of the last three days.

The testing site is open to the general public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
