McLean County Dropped From COVID Warning List

UPDATED: 1:40 P.M. | McLean County has been dropped from the Illinois Department of Public Health's (IDPH) COVID-19 warning list as the county's testing positivity rate continues to fall. 
The weekly list released by IDPH on Friday has 24 counties, inclduing DeWitt. McLean County's rate of new cases remains in a warning status, but its testing positivity from Sept. 6-12 dropped below the 8% threshold. 

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) is reporting 50 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Friday, the highest single-day total in nearly a week. The county’s testing positivity rate continued to drop--to 5%, down from 9.4% a week ago.

Another COVID-19 patient was admitted to hospital in the past day, bringing the total to seven hospitalized people with one in intensive care. Meanwhile, about 50 additional people have finished their time in quarantine and are now considered recovered. The county’s active caseload sits at 1,245.

The county logged 273 new cases in the last week, according to MCHD data. Of those, about 15% were children under the age of 17, including two infants. Just under 40% were college-aged people in their late-teens and 20s. People in their 30s accounted for about 14%, while those in their 40s, 50s and 60s each make up about 10%. Those over age 70 account for under 5%.

Illinois State University reported four new COVID-19 tests on Friday as the campus’ testing positivity rate continued to drop; it's now 3.2%.

The university reported 932 COVID-19 results in the past week, below its weekly testing target of 1,500. Administrators said the university has capacity to run 2,500 tests per week.

Meanwhile, Illinois Wesleyan University added seven new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing its total since the start of the pandemic to 109, including 10 upon-arrival tests. IWU's active caseload sits at 36. The university reports a testing positivity rate of 3.5%.
