McLean County Sees 27th COVID Death; 77 New Cases

The McLean County Health Department announced 77 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Sunday.

McLean County health officials announced the county’s 27th COVID-related death Sunday, along with 77 new coronavirus cases. That’s the highest single-day total in a month.
According to the McLean County Health Department (MCHD), the latest death is a woman in her 60s. The department said the woman had underlying health conditions and was not associated with a long-term care facility.

The McLean County Health Department announced 77 new coronavirus cases on Sunday.

Several nursing homes in McLean County are dealing with COVID outbreaks. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 43 new cononavirus cases and one death at those facilities over the last week.

McLean County has had four COVID-related deaths in the last week.

The health department said one additional person has completed quarantine since Saturday, while nine people are hospitalized (none in intensive care) and 268 patients are isolating at home.

“It is important that we all continue to take this virus seriously and do everything we can to keep each other safe,” said MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight. “We cannot wait until we see a new surge of cases to take action to control the spread. It’s important that we stay on track and do not become complacent.”

The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate jumped from 3% to 3.7%, while the cumulative positivity rate since the start of the pandemic held at 4.4%.

Illinois State University announced five new coronavirus cases on Saturday. The campus positivity rate over the last week is 1%.
