
Randy Kindred
CorrespondentRandy Kindred spent 42 years as a sportswriter at The Pantagraph, including eight as sports editor. A native of Atlanta, Illinois, and an Illinois State graduate, he covered a wide range of sports as a reporter and columnist.
Kindred retired from full-time duty in March 2020, but continued to write columns for The Pantagraph. His byline appeared in the newspaper for 45 years.

Ted Schmitz has a special place at Illinois State University. He will receive the Campbell “Stretch” Miller Award on Oct. 18 as part of ISU's Percy Family Athletics Hall of Fame inductions.

McCade Brown stands tall these days. He toes the pitching rubber at 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, and his recent call-up to the Major Leagues with the Colorado Rockies was a dream realized.

The Titans play their home games on Inspiration Field at Carol Willis Park, a facility that has had numerous upgrades in recent years, funded largely by Willis. Without her generosity, IWU would not be hosting the NCAA Division III World Series starting next week.

Bob Conkling announced his retirement after a season in which ISU won its second Midwest Independent Conference championship in three years and third overall under Conkling. He was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the third time. He leaves the program better than he found it.

U-High alum Tanner Morris is fueled by a basketball upbringing. His father, Bob Morris, was a men’s assistant coach at Northern Illinois, Illinois State and Lincoln College. Now, Tanner is thriving as the head coach himself at College of Lake County.

John Snyder, a former longtime basketball coach at Central Catholic High School, has died at age 93. The man known as “The Dean” during his 39-year tenure on the Saints' bench and more than 50 years at the school leaves a legacy of perseverance, master storytelling, commitment to all things Central Catholic and a huge, caring heart.
