Central Illinois GOP Rep Puzzled By Governor Ag Position

In-school ag programs have been cut, twice, by Governor Bruce Rauner. At a news conference in Uptown Normal, Republican State Representative Tom Bennett says he's puzzled by the Governor's vetos when held up against Rauner's words. "Agriculture is a big part of what works in Illinois. And so you're correct, the Governor did line item zero that out. He did also that last year, and we were able to get it back in. And he zeroed it out again this time. At the same time Governor Rauner talks about how important agriculture is to the state of Illinois." Bennett, from Gibson City, says he's confident Illinois will continue it's school programs on agriculture. State Senator Bill Brady, appearing along with Bennett, says state mandates have tied school administrators hands over what they can offer. He says eliminating those mandates will free up resources for ag in the classroom.
