Normal Council To Consider Bike Sharing

The Twin Cities could have a bike sharing program soon. Normal Town Council members will vote on a contract with Zagster, which provides the service for small towns and universities.

The proposal could cost the town over $175 thousand for the first three years. That includes $17 thousand in projected annual revenue and $10 thousand in annual contributions from Advocate BroMenn.

The proposal includes a $6 day pass, $10 monthly membership, or $40 yearly membership as well as hourly fees for using a bike. The first hour would be free with a pass or membership.

The plan suggests 9 bike stations at locations such as Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Uptown Normal, and Downtown Bloomington.

Council members will also hear two reports for the 2015 to 2016 financial year and will be asked to approve an audit report.
