Bloomington City Council and Normal Town Council candidates filed petitions for their candidacy in the spring consolidated elections Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

Monday was the last day for candidates to file petitions for city and town council.

Three candidates filed Monday petitions for Bloomington City Council, making all four races contested.

Julia Emig filed for Ward 4. She is running against Don Frank. Both candidates are newcomers. Alderman Amelia Buragas announced Monday she would not seek re-election.

Incumbent Karen Schmidt filed her petitions for Ward 6. She is seeking a sixth term on the council. She is running against Jenn Carrillo, a local community organizer.

Travis Wilson, a former city firefighter and paramedic, filed petitions for Ward 8. He is running against Jeff Crabill, a corporate lawyer for State Farm. Alderman Diana Hauman announced earlier this year she was not running for another term.

Both candidates for Ward 2, Georgene Chissell and Donna Boelen, filed their petitions last week. Alderman David Sage is not seeking re-election after holding the seat since 2007.

Eight candidates filed petitions for three at-large seats on the Normal Town Council.

After announcing his candidacy last week, Joel Studebaker filed his petitions Monday. Alex Campbell also filed petitions before the filing deadline. He has yet to publicly announce his candidacy.

Incumbents Kathleen Lorenzand R.C. McBride as well as newcomers Dave Shields and Stan Nord filed petitions November 19. The Town will hold a lottery to determine their placements on the ballot.

Town Council candidates Karyn Smith and Pat Turner also filed petitions last week.

Longtime incumbent Jeff Fritzen is not seeking another term.

Neither the Town of Normal nor the City of Bloomington will need to hold primary elections before the April election.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to correct that Jenn Carrillo is a local community organizer. It incorrectly stated that she works with the YWCA.
