McLean County Libertarian Party Chair Announces Candidacy For State Chair

Steve Suess

The chair of the McLean County Libertarian Party announced his candidacy for state party chair late Wednesday.

Steve Suess said he is not running “with personal ambition in mind,” but to best use his skills for the betterment of the party.

“As I thought about how I could best use my time, knowledge, talent, and resources for the cause of liberty, this was the decision I kept arriving at,” Suess said in a statement. “We have grown a considerable amount since I’ve joined the Libertarian Party. Our tent is bigger, and the Libertarian Party is more ideologically diverse. Now it’s time for all of us to come together and move the cause of liberty forward, and I believe I can help accomplish that goal.”

Elections for the state party are next spring.

Suess said he will not step down as county party chair. Local Libertarian party executive committee member Kevin Woodard will fill in as Chair Pro Tempore when Suess is unavailable. Woodard ran as a Libertarian last year in McLean County Board District 10 but lost to incumbent Chuck Erickson.
