Bloomington Street Improvements Move Ahead

Ralph Weisheit

The Mayor of Bloomington says the city's commitment to infrastructure will soon become visible. Street repairs have been an ongoing problem for years. But, Tari Renner said council approval of ten million dollars in the new budget will make a difference.

"So you will really begin in the next couple of years to finally see some relief," Renner said.

Even with ten million dollars in budgeted street repairs, Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner says citizens must be patient with remaining potholes.

"One thing that is going to make it more difficult for us is that in any given season there are only so many roads you can close off, only so much you can do. So, this is going to taje many years," Renner said.

Renner said he also hopes for a $20 million to $30 million bond for infrastructure. He says taking on debt for this purpose is appropriate.

"This is a long term capital project. you don't get into debt for short term things, right? But, this is critical," he said.

The city council earlier approved a ten million dollar infrastructure bond.

Renner said the city has at least 84 million dollars in street infrastructure needs. There is also a huge list of water and sewer construction priorities.
