The Carle Center for Philanthropy said Friday its VISION 2020 campaign is a success, bringing in more than $36.9 million--above the $35 million goal for the seven-year effort.
“We’re so grateful to the countless donors who continue to support the world-class health care provided at Carle,” said Beth Katsinas, vice president of Carle Center for Philanthropy. “Their generosity helped us fuel research, expand opportunities, enable community outreach, enhance patient experiences, deliver extraordinary care, and further the education of our team members.”
The money will pay for initiatives designed to transform health care through innovative medicine and compassionate care, said Carle.
The campaign’s lead gift, from campaign co-chairs Rick and Jeanene Stephens, established the Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute at Carle. They and other donors put $9.4 million toward research.
“Individuals and families in the region and around the world will benefit from the breakthroughs and therapeutics that transform the way doctors diagnose and treat illness,” said Jennifer Eardley, PhD, vice president for research at Carle Health.
Money also went toward a job readiness and learning program. Other donations expanded outreach on healthy beginnings, a mobile health clinic, a specialty asthma clinic, a pediatric transport vehicle, sensory-friendly spaces for patients with autism, a rooftop healing garden at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, and tuition assistance for students pursuing nursing degrees.
Some donations also have gone toward COVID-19 preparedness, containment and response efforts, and disaster relief.
Carle said nearly 1.5 million people live within its service region.
