A portion of Interstate 74 near Downs was closed Thursday night as horses broke loose after a crash.
The crash happened before 6:30 p.m. at mile marker 139, Downs Police said. Eastbound I-74 was shut down, the Bloomington Township Fire Department reported.
Downs Police posted several photos on Facebook as authorities successfully corraled the escaped horses. Videos of the galloping horses circulated on social media.
"Not every day you get to be a cowboy," Downs Police said. "A big thank you to (Illinois State Police), McLean County deputies, Downs Fire Protection District, and the semi drivers that assisted us in corraling these horses up before anything unfortunate could happen."
