McLean County has added its first Saturday clinic for COVID-19 vaccines after receiving an additional shipment.The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) has announced a clinic for first-dose COVID vaccines on Saturday, March 13, at Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington. Appointments were scheduled to open Tuesday at 11 a.m.
The arena also is hosting clinics for first doses Tuesday and for first and second doses on Thursday. The Activity and Recreation Center(ARC) in Normal is hosting clinics for second doses only on Wednesday and Friday.
“We expect more first-dose appointments to open for registration Thursday at 11 a.m. for clinics next week,” the health department said in a news release.
People in Phases 1A and 1B, including people 65 and older, health care employees and other essential workers are eligible to get the vaccine. The county has not yet expanded access to people under age 65 who have medical conditions.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), more than 41,000 vaccine doses have been put in people’s arms in McLean County and more than 15,000 people have received both doses. The county’s rate of fully vaccinated (8.7%) is slightly behind the state average (9%).
On Tuesday, McLean County announced 27 new confirmed or probable coronavirus cases, while 24 McLean County residents remain hospitalized with COVID. The number is unchanged since Monday.
Ninety percent of Bloomington-Normal hospital beds are full and 69% of intensive care beds are in use.
McLean County’s testing positivity rate increased nearly a half-point to 2.3%. That matches the state average. The county’s cumulative positivity dropped to 5.8%, based on more than 252,600 tests taken since the start of the pandemic.
According to MCHD, 160 people are isolating at home while 50 people are been released from quarantine since Monday. The county reports 14,340 people are considered recovered from the coronavirus.
The county’s COVID death count remains 173.
