McLean County COVID Hospitalizations Drop Slightly

The McLean County Health Department announced 75 new COVID-19 cases on Monday.

The strain on Bloomington-Normal hospitals eased slightly over the weekend due to an apparent drop in the number of COVID-19 patients.The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reported Monday that 16 McLean County residents are hospitalized due to COVID complications. That’s down from 16 on Friday. However, the department doesn’t indicate how many COVID patients are hospitalized in Bloomington-Normal.

Twin City hospitals report 86% of beds are in use. That’s down from 94% on Friday. Intensive care beds are 77% occupied, marking a drop of 8% over the weekend.

MCHD reported 75 new confirmed or probable coronavirus cases since Friday and an additional 85 recoveries.

The county has 199 people isolating at home, while 14,164 patients have been released from quarantine and are considered recovered.

McLean County’s seven-day testing positivity rate held steady at 2.3% and the cumulative positivity rate dipped to 5.9%, based on more than 244,700 tests.

The county has recorded 170 COVID-related deaths, including 18 fatalities in February. That marks a sharp decline from December and January that both had 51 deaths.

Vaccines

More than 35,000 COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed in McLean County, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The county has fully vaccinated nearly 12,000 people. That’s nearly 7% of its population and exceeds the state average.

The health department has three vaccine clinics scheduled for this week.

  • Tuesday at Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington for second doses only (including those rescheduled from Feb. 19)
  • Wednesday at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) in Normal for second doses only
  • Thursday at Grossinger for first and second doses.
