The McLean County Health Department is reporting the death of another long-term care facility resident— a woman in her 90s.

Her death is the 14th this month. Ten of them lived in a Twin City nursing home or assisted living facility.

October has proven to be the deadliest month for COVID-19 in McLean County so far. The previous monthly high was in May, when 10 people died from coronavirus complications. That, too, was tied to outbreaks at long-term care facilities.

The county's death toll is now 37 since the start of the pandemic. The majority of the deaths have been involved older people—13 were in their 80s, 10 were in their 70s, six were in their 90s. The youngest death was a 34-year-old woman. Three people in their 50s and four in their 60s also have died.

The health department reported 19 new confirmed cases on Thursday. Nine people are currently hospitalized—none are in intensive care. Another 352 are isolating at home. An additional 61 people are now considered recovered.

The county's testing positivity rate dropped slightly to 5.3%.

Illinois State University reported nine new confirmed cases Thursday. The university's testing positivity rate sits at 2.9%. There are currently 58 active cases on campus. About 2% of ISU's isolation bed capacity is in use.
