McLean County has reached its highest number of active COVID-19 cases in nearly a month, while hospitalizations and testing positivity remain largely stable.
The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) announced 24 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. Twenty-three McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s unchanged since Friday.
Bloomington-Normal hospitals report 87% of their beds are occupied and 65% of intensive care beds are in use. Both numbers are down since Tuesday. Those hospitals have eight COVID-19 patients.
MCHD said 206 people are isolating at home. The 229 active cases marks the county’s highest total since Feb. 19.
The county reports 14,491 people have been released from quarantine and are considered recovered.
McLean County’s COVD-19 death toll remains 175.
The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate inched up to 2.9% from 2.8% on Tuesday. The cumulative positivity rate stands at 5.7% based on more than 260,900 tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.
COVID vaccines
Nearly 11% of McLean County’s population is fully vaccinated, compared with 12.3% of the state’s population.
More than 50,700 COVID vaccine doses have been distributed in McLean County.
MCHD has started to include the Phase 1B+ population in its vaccination clinics. That includes those who have underlying health conditions.
