The Peoria city council tonight will consider a new contract with Peoria Disposal Company that could bring back every-other-week pickup of recyclables for households south of Forrest Hill Avenue.
When the current contract began, some residents with alleys objected to changing recycling services from the alley to the curb. To accommodate alley pick-up, PDC went to different trucks, resulting in monthly pick-up of recycled materials.
The city and PDC now agree there are fewer households in Peoria, saving the city money. But the cost of alley pick-up is still more than those savings. The contract will cost the city $31,000 for the remainder of this year. Twice-monthly pick-up will begin next month if the council approves the new contract. Recyclables will be picked up at the same location where residential waste is collected.
