Trevonte Kirkwood was shot and killed in October. The 27-year-old had two young children.

Jordyn Thornton, 19, of Bloomington, and Quentin L. Jackson, 21, of Peoria, are charged with fatally shooting Kirkwood on Oct. 30 on North Oak Street. He was one of nine people slain by gun violence in Bloomington-Normal in 2018—a modern record. His was the only case without an arrest.

Bloomington Police said evidence gleaned from their “lengthy investigation” led to arrest warrants for Thornton and Jackson on Wednesday. Thornton was already being held at the McLean County jail on unrelated charges. Jackson was arrested Thursday in Peoria by the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Thornton is being held on $1.5 million bond. Jackson is being on $1 million bond. They’re due in court Friday.

“While arrests have been made in this case, it is still considered ongoing. Additional details will not be released at this time,” Bloomington Police said. “We continue to ask the public if they have information regarding this case to please contact Detective Jeff Engle or Detective Paul Jones. If you have information and wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111.”

Kirkwood, 27, had two young children. His mother, Dameca, has become an outspoken advocate against gun violence since his death, including appearances with the McLean County chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. She was featured in a WGLT story in February.
