GLT Datebook: Show Highlights Pop Art Master

Glen C. Davies

A retrospective exhibition that covers 45 years of work by artist Glen C. Davies fills both the Merwin and Wakely Galleries at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.  The retrospective reveals how a particular offshoot of pop art and his work in circuses influenced his highly colorful works.

  • "Alpha and Omega" spotlights Davies, who fulfilled a childhood dream of traveling with the circus.  Elements of the sideshow inform his work.
  • Davies was also influenced by Chicago's pop genre known as imagism, which began in the late 60's.  The movement included popular imagery, creating a pop culture infusion into high art.
