Documentary By Harvard Physician Demystifies End Of Life Issues

Atul Gawande

The end of life is automatically a stressful time for those who are dying and their families. And people in today's society are often more removed from death than those in foregoing generations.

A documentary film about medicine and end of life issues shows Tuesday evening at the ISU Alumni Center. It's called "Being Mortal:,Medicine and What Happens at the End."

The movie is being sponsored by Compassion &  Choices of McLean County in collaboration with Advocate Bromenn, OSF St. Joseph Healthcare, the Community Cancer Center, Mennonite College of Nursing and ISU. The free movie shows at the ISU Alumni Center October 25th. at 5:30 p.m. A light dinner is available at five with advance registration.

Doctors are by their nature compassionate people. But, their training and the medical system sometimes does not help them show that. Cheree' Johnson is the Chaplain at Advocate BroMenn. In this interview with GLT's Charlie Schlenker, Johnson talked about the barriers to addressing the kinds of things that need to be addressed for people at the end of life.
