Cicadas

The rare emergence of two broods of periodic cicadas at one time in parts of Central Illinois has attracted international attention from those who want to hear the pulsating and ear-piercing mating choruses.

This year was already a rare one in central Illinois for a solar eclipse. The next happening is even rarer — two broods of cicadas will emerge from the ground this year at the same time.

For the first time in more than 200 years, two specific broods of cicadas will be emerging from the ground at the same time.
