In this installment of WGLT's Sounds of Summer series, you'll revisit last weekend's Sweet Corn Circus, featuring Gamma Phi Circus and Iron Spirit Pro wrestling.

Nearly 35 hot air balloons take flight over Lincoln this weekend. A companion art fair, now in its fourth year, convenes artists to sell their wares.

Here are some highlights from the Sweet Corn Circus in Uptown Normal on Aug. 26-27, 2023. It included performances by Gamma Phi Circus at Illinois State, Cirquemania, Maestro Jones and the Front Street Collective, and Iron Spirit Pro wrestling.

The Sweet Corn Circus celebrates Bloomington-Normal's agricultural and circus roots. The weekend festival includes performances from Gamma Phi Circus, Cirquemania and Iron Spirit Pro Wrestling — and corn!

Bloomington-Normal was dubbed the "trapeze capital of the world," with many of the best flyers hailing from and training in the area. The places they trained are gone, but evidence of the Twin Cities' circus past is hidden around every corner.
