The Veterans Parkway study will be done in 2026. The commission will give it to IDOT that maintains the road, and has its own priorities that include statewide factors.

The public will have three more opportunities to weigh in on the future of safety along the Veterans Parkway corridor.

Three open house informational events are set for those looking to learn more about the Veterans Parkway Corridor Plan study, led by the McLean County Regional Planning Commission. The open houses are:

Veterans Parkway is the most dangerous road in Bloomington-Normal, according to the commission. Over the past decade, Veterans Parkway has been the site of more than 75 serious crashes, resulting in life-altering injuries or fatalities, said the commission. Its current design provides minimal accommodations for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.

For the study, the commission previously sought input through an online survey.

The final plan is expected to be published in mid-2026. The commission will give it to the Illinois Department of Transportation, which maintains the road.
