McLean County COVID Vaccination Efforts Continue To Slow

The number of vaccine doses administered in McLean County is down 5.7% week-over-week. It's nearly 60% below a peak in vaccinations in mid-April.

The McLean County Health Department reported 20 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, as the county’s testing positivity rate held mostly steady at 3.1%.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 1,200 test results returned overnight. The county’s total caseload is now 18,184. The death toll remains at 227.

One additional county resident is hospitalized with coronavirus complications, bringing the total to 23 patients.

About 16% of Bloomington-Normal hospital beds are open, but intensive care unit capacity shrunk in the past day. Only 4% of ICU beds are available.

McLean County’s active COVID caseload continues to drop. There are 212 people isolating at home, while an additional 25 are now considered recovered. The active caseload has been on the decline for nearly two weeks straight.

Just under 138,400 coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in McLean County, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. That’s an increase of about 1,700 doses in the past day.

Vaccination efforts are down slightly week-over-week. The county administered 6,574 vaccine doses in the past seven days. That’s about 5.7% lower than the week prior—and about 60% behind the peak in vaccinations in mid-April.

More than 65,000 residents are fully vaccinated. That’s 37.62% of the population. The statewide average is 38.37%.
