Authorities have identified the victim as 30-year-old Geoffrey Rowry of Bloomington.

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night at an apartment complex in Bloomington. It’s at least the seventh homicide in Bloomington-Normal this year.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. in the 800 block of East Washington Street. Responding officers found Geoffrey Rowry of Bloomington lying in the courtyard of the apartment complex, Bloomington Police said.

Rowry was taken to Carle BroMenn Medical Center but later died of his injuries.

There have been no arrests and no other injuries reported.

Bloomington Police are investigating. If you have information about the homicide, please contact detective Brad Melton at (309) 434-2505 or at Bmelton@cityblm.org or detective Kevin Raisbeck at (309) 434-2593 or at Kraisbeck@cityblm.org.

This is not the first episode of gun violence in the area. A 37-year-old man was shot outside during an argument, also in the 800 block of East Washington, on June 3, 2020. Nearby Washington Elementary School was put on lockdown in 2019 after a midday shooting tied to an apparent gang dispute.

Thursday’s incident was at least the seventh homicide in Bloomington-Normal so far in 2021, according to WGLT reporting. Six of those were fatal shootings. By contrast, there was one homicide in 2020.

There also also been as many other non-fatal shootings, shots fired calls, and other gun violence incidents in Bloomington-Normal this year. That includes a ride-share driver shooting, and a pregnant teenager who was shot “indiscriminately,” both on Bloomington’s east side. This week, a Bloomington High School student was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school.
