Police have made an arrest in a smash-and-grab early Sunday morning at a Bloomington gun store.

Federal prosecutors have filed a complaint against 20-year-old Dajuan Edwards-Melton of Peoria for the break-in at Smiley's Sports Shop on Ireland Grove Road.

Officers said they found a forced door and smashed display cases when they arrived at the store, adding a total of 25 guns, worth more than $9,000, were taken. Prosecutors said Edwards-Melton had one of the stolen guns with him when he was arrested on Monday. Edwards-Melton goes before a judge for a detention hearing on Friday.

If convicted, the maximum penalty is a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Agencies participating in the investigation include the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco & Explosives, the Peoria Police Department, and the Bloomington Police Department.
