A new apartment-style hotel could be coming to Bloomington’s far west side.

The Bloomington Planning Commission on Wednesday will hear a plan for a new stayAPT Suites. The 70-room hotel would be built on the northwest corner of Wylie and Bettis drives. There are several other hotels in that area, near the west-side Walmart and less than 3 miles from the Rivian auto plant. The property is currently vacant.

“stayAPT Suites is excited to bring our new apartment-style hotel brand to the Bloomington-Normal area. We are looking forward to joining this wonderful community, which has much to offer both its travelers and residents – from a great business community to its vibrant culture,” Gary DeLapp, stayAPT Suites president and CEO, said in a statement.

Bloomington city staff has endorsed the plan, according to plans shared with the planning commission. If the planning commission does too, it will go before the City Council for a final review.
