The WGLT Summer Concert presented by CEFCU is set for its return to downtown Bloomington on Saturday, June 18. And for the first time in its 20-year history, it's an all-women lineup.

Bringing in the hometown heat is a Central Illinois legend, Cindy Youngren, who’s the frontwoman for the WGLT Summer Concert opening band Tambora.

The “Cindy” in Southside Cindy and the Slip-Tones and a member of the band Hoosier Daddy, Youngren spoke with WGLT's Ariele Jones about what concertgoers should expect from her Peoria-based Flamenco band.

“We are a high-energy, heavy talented performance,” says Youngren. The band is filled with talented musicians from across Central Illinois with a sound heavily influenced by Latin and Mediterranean sounds.

Youngren said she was excited when approached to perform at the WGLT Summer Concert.

“This is our first public venue that’s not by invitation only, so this is the coming-out party if you will, and I am certain it will not sound like it," she said.

The WGLT Summer Concert is a perfect environment for the “most talented street party” an audience member could see.

You can learn more about the other WGLT Summer Concert acts, the schedule for the day, and see the spiffy new Summer Concert poster at WGLT.org/SummerConcert.

Ariele Jones is WGLT's assistant program director and host of Morning Edition, Highway 309, and Center Stage.
