Carl Teichman is stepping away from the director of government and community relations position at Illinois Wesleyan and taking the job of business retention manager at the EDC. The council has traditionally focused on business attraction from outside the community.

A new strategic plan focuses on additional effort at fostering hometown business. Teichman will focus on helping keep businesses in the Twin Cities and expanding existing operations.

EDC head Patrick Hoban said during a public presentation of economic data that Teichman's network of relationships and enthusiasm for community engagements will continue to help Bloomington-Normal and its business community.

Teichman has spent more than four decades at IWU and started work in the president's office there in 1989. Teichman was named Normal Citizen of the Year in 2017 for his impact on the community. He has a lengthy public service leadership record with a variety of entities and organizations in McLean County. Among those, he has chaired or been president of the McLean County Regional Planning Commission, the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, and the board of the Westminster Village retirement community. He also was named Federation 2018 Advocate of the Year by the Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities (FIICU).

WGLT Senior Reporter Charlie Schlenker has spent more than three award-winning decades in radio. He lives in Normal with his family.
