DeWitt County Sheriff Mike Walker released this photo of shooting suspect Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz, and said his whereabouts are unknown.

DeWitt County authorities say the two people shot in rural Kenney on Sunday — one fatally — were both related to the alleged gunman, who remains at large.

DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice released the name of the victim who was killed as John Wesley “Wes” Anderson, 78, of rural Kenney. Rice pronounced Anderson dead at the scene of the shooting that was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday at 635 Kenney Road.

According to a news release from DeWitt County Sheriff Mike Walker, Anderson was the father-in-law of the suspect, Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz. Walker said Munoz is wanted on murder and other felony charges.

Authorities said the shooting victim who survived is Munoz’s son, Kigan Antonio Munoz, of Clinton. Police said he was shot multiple times and is listed in critical condition at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Kenney is a town of about 300 people about 30 miles south of Bloomington-Normal.

Police found four other people in the home hid from the gunman, and responding officers brought them out safely following the incident.

Walker said the suspect, who goes by Jesus, remains at large. Walker said he thinks Munoz has fled the area. He described Munoz as a Hispanic male, 5-feet-6, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The sheriff said Sunday the gunman fled the scene in a white 2019 Honda Accord with the Illinois registration DT50632.
