McLean County officials are warning of a phone scam attempting to intimidate people into sharing their personal information.

The McLean County Jury Commission said in a news release Tuesday that recent jurors have been included in a phone scam attempting to elicit personal and credit card information, though calls have gone to other members of the public as well.

The jury commission is comprised of three commissioners who are appointed by the court and serve three-year terms on a rotating basis. It's responsible for mailing jury summonses, assigning jurors and compiling verification of jury duty for employers, among other tasks laid out in state statute.

Scammers posing as jury personnel have threatened those who pick up the call with potential arrest for failing to appear for jury duty, and then request personal information, according to the release. County officials said neither the commission, circuit clerk's office or the sheriff's office would call over such matters.

The jury commission said those who have questions about who may be contacting them or what jury duty entails should call 309-888-5241 or email jury@mcleancountyil.gov.
