A 19-year-old man from Bloomington has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a shooting that injured two people last year in Normal.

According to McLean County court records, Colin Simpson pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm. A host of other charges, including attempted murder, were dropped.

Officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrested Simpson in March, one year after the shooting. Normal Police assisted in the investigation.

Police say it was a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex in the 700 block of West Orlando Avenue in March 2023.

Police said at least three people were thought to have been in a car with Simpson at the time of the shooting. Police on Friday did not have information immediately available regarding potential additional arrests or suspects in the case.
