Bloomington School District 87 saw academic growth shown in various designations included in this year’s Illinois State Report Card.

The report card is released annually by the Illinois State Board of Education and examines progress in academics, climate, student success and school culture.

A District 87 statement of the achievements was released Wednesday, expressing positivity about the district’s progress.

“As one of the most diverse school districts in Illinois, District 87 prioritizes providing equitable education to all students and cultivating a culture of growth and achievement throughout our schools,” the statement read. “District 87 expresses sincere appreciation to parents, teachers, and administrators for their unwavering dedication to our students and families.”

“We are immensely proud of the progress our schools are achieving,” said Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Nicole Rummel.

Washington Elementary among top Illinois schools

Washington Elementary School received an exemplary designation for the second year in a row, reserved for schools performing among the top 10% state wide. The school also saw improvements in math, science and English.

Washington Elementary principal Zach Freeman shared his gratitude for the earned recognition.

“This designation is a direct reflection of the tireless efforts of our staff each day,” Freeman said in the announcement. “I am very proud of their commitment to our students.”

“Washington [Elementary School] is a special place and we will continue to strive for excellence every day.”

Other accolades

Stevenson Elementary and Bloomington Jr. High School improved their ratings this year. Oakland and Bent Elementary held their status and saw improvements in math and English. And Sheridan Elementary School saw a decrease in absenteeism, while showing improvement in math studies.

Irving Elementary School still holds a commendable status, seeing increase in academic scores with nearly maxed-out points in English and science.

Bloomington High School also retained its commendable status, showing improvement in ninth grade on-track indicators.

“Overall, all our schools have demonstrated remarkable growth,” Rummel said. “We remain committed to fostering academic excellence, improving attendance and prioritizing student well-being. As we move forward, we will continue to monitor instruction closely and implement the necessary supports to ensure continued growth.”
