The McLean County coroner said a pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday morning by a pickup truck on Interstate 55 near Shirley.

Coroner Kathy Yoder said her office was notified of a death at 10:53 a.m. following the incident on I-55 southbound near mile marker 154.

Yoder said 28-year-old Kevin L. Curry, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan was pronounced dead at the scene. Curry was struck, Yoder said, while reportedly crossing the freeway on foot and died as a result of multiple blunt injuries. The coroner's office has not provided additional details about why Curry may have been in the roadway.

The crash is under investigation by her office and Illinois State Police. A toxicology exam is pending.
