A woman from Normal has been sentenced to 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to the involuntary manslaughter of her 1-year-old daughter.
26-year-old Quvonnay Collins was accused of leaving her 13-month-old in a hot car two years ago, leading to the child's death from heat exposure.
Collins was sentenced this week as part of a plea deal in which she admitted guilt in the Class 2 felony. Additional charges were dropped as part of that deal.
Collins was not detained throughout the legal process and receives credit for two days spent in jail following her arrest. She is required to serve at least half of her sentence, making her first eligible for release in 4.5 years.
