New outdoor patio planned for gap next to Maggie Miley's in Uptown Normal

A high-profile gap in Uptown Normal may soon get filled in with a new outdoor patio.

Maggie Miley’s plans to construct its new outdoor patio adjacent to the east of its current building at 126 E. Beaufort St. It’s currently a vacant lot that was previously used for parking and outdoor dining during the pandemic.

The new patio would be enclosed by large planters, with string lights surrounding it. There would be a new walkway constructed leading out from the side door of the restaurant.

Plans for the patio go before the Uptown Design Review Commission at its 4 p.m. May 12 meeting at Uptown Station (Room 409). If approved, it’s expected to be done by July 20, according to documents submitted to the commission.

“Town staff finds that the proposed patio would be an attractive addition to the streetscape in Uptown and would activate a space that is currently the empty lot,” staff told commission members

In 2022, the Town of Normal approved plans for a new two-story building in this gap next to Maggie Miley’s, which would have allowed for expansion of Maggie Miley’s and created an outdoor event space on its second floor. That project has not come to fruition.
