A pavement preservation project on Interstate 74 from Interstate 55 in Normal to the Carlock interchange began this week, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
This project, which began Monday, will result in a lane closure on both directions of I-74 through November.
Intermittent full closure of I-74 and I-55 ramps will be necessary for up to three weeks at a time. Detours will include I-55 northbound to U.S. Business 51 north of Normal to I-55 southbound and I-74 westbound.
Delays are to be expected; motorists should allow themselves extra time for trips throughout the area.
These are necessary closures for drainage, pavement rehabilitation and safety improvements along seven miles of the interstate.
