A Bloomington woman charged with causing her son's death has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Stephany Flores-Ramirez, 34, pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence causing death, a Class 2 felony, and one charge of driving under the influence causing bodily harm, a Class 4 felony. Additional charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Flores-Ramirez crashed on July 3, 2024, while driving on Interstate 74 between Bloomington and Downs. Authorities said she crossed the center median and hit a delivery van and semi tractor-trailer.

Flores-Ramirez’s 8-year-old son, Raymundo Bucio Flores, was a passenger in her SUV and died from injuries suffered in the crash. The delivery van driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. The semi driver was uninjured.

Flores-Ramirez must serve at least 85% of the 10-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Correction and pay nearly $2 million in restitution.
