Applications are now open for All About Normal, the Town of Normal's free civic education program.
Participants learn about local government operations and services provided by the town, while covering other topics like the town's history, public safety, and economic development. Participants meet Town Council members and town staff to learn the nuts and bolts of municipal processes.
Participants can sit in on town council meetings, speaker presentations and active group discussions. Meeting locations can range anywhere from the Normal Police Department to the Normal Theater.
Town of Normal administrative analyst Jacob Smith said the program focuses on “connecting and learning with like-minded individuals to help shape the future.” He said All About Normal uses interactive sessions, instead of the typical “death-by-PowerPoint program.”

The program will select 20 people to participate in group meetings that will run every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 9 p.m., beginning Oct. 8 through Dec. 10.
Launched in 2009, the program was open only to those 18 and older. Since its reopening post-pandemic, the program is now open to learners age 15 and up.
No prior community leadership is required. Priority placement will be given to Town of Normal residents.
Applicants are asked to complete the All About Normal application form by Sept. 26. The applicants chosen will be notified by Oct. 1.
For a complete list of planned session topics, visit the All About Normal page on the town website.
