The intersection of Broadway Avenue and Beaufort Street in Uptown Normal will soon become a 4-way stop.

A busy intersection in Uptown Normal will soon permanently become a 4-way stop.

A traffic study conducted by the Town of Normal revealed the crossing at Broadway Avenue and Beaufort Street to be a safety hot spot for pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers traveling north and south on Beaufort do not currently have to stop.

The change takes effect on Sept. 16.

Additional temporary changes are aimed at slowing down traffic on and near Illinois State University's campus, where pedestrians have reported dangerous interactions with vehicles. These include rubber bumpers and expanded corners at Beaufort Street and Fell Avenue to help guide motorists turning left and improve crosswalk visibility.
