Bloomington Police officers plan to respond to community complaints of excessive vehicle noise and unsafe driving by increasing traffic enforcement on Veterans Parkway.

A man died when a sport utility vehicle hit the bicycle he was riding Sunday on the west side of Bloomington.

The project covers about 1.5 miles from Clayton Street to Veterans Parkway. IDOT is overseeing the work because U.S. Route 150 is a state-maintained road.

The big area of contention is School Street as it intersects with College Avenue and Mulberry Street. It leaves the Town of Normal and Illinois State University with a final recommendation to make regarding the intersection.

Town of Normal officials heard frequent complaints from pedestrians about their safety when crossing the intersection.

High school students from LeRoy learned how to stay safe when they see farm equipment on the road this fall.

Eight select locations will see temporary measures implemented starting Sept. 3. These measures could help to calm traffic, improve crossing safety and limit accidents.

Ryan Otto, Normal's director of public works and engineering, presented a list of findings from a pedestrian and roadway campus safety initiative to the town council on Monday.

Illinois State University and the Town of Normal are seeking public feedback to make the campus safer for drivers and pedestrians.
