A Bloomington man will remain in custody awaiting trial on two charges of drug-induced homicide, a class X felony.
Shaquan D. Hosea, 30, is accused of causing the deaths of two women who bought fentanyl [FEN-tin-uhl] from him, believing it was another drug.
Sisters Angel Cornett, 34, and Treshonda Cornett, 28, both from Bloomington, died of fentanyl overdoses a day apart in June 2025.
A Bloomington Police Department spokesperson said detectives used phone records to identify Hosea as a suspect. He was arrested on Dec. 23. A McLean County judge denied Hosea pretrial release during a hearing last week.
Authorities said more than one fentanyl overdose occurring in close succession often triggers a police investigation to explore causes other than accidental death or death by suicide.
Hosea is also awaiting trial on unrelated wire fraud, theft and forgery charges connected to financial crimes which allegedly took place in 2022. The McLean County Circuit Clerk confirmed there was an outstanding warrant for that case when he was arrested on homicide charges.
Hosea's next court appearances for both cases is March 6.
