The Normal Town Council approved a number of transportation and facilities-related actions during its meeting on Monday.
The council authorized a facility use agreement with FlixBus to start serving bus customers at Uptown Station. The town charges a license fee of $270 per month and a fee of $375 for ticketing of those services, through Heartland Parking.
FlixBus joins Peoria Charter, Greyhound and Jefferson Lines as roadway transit providers at the station. Normal will be among a number of different Illinois locations served by FlixBus, which covers routes across the continental United States. It already serves Peoria, Champaign and Bloomington.
During their short meeting, council members also approved a bid for DeKalb’s Ferguson Waterworks to provide water main and service line materials.
Bids for the service are renewed once a year to maintain consistent, predictable pricing on service taps, main taps and hydrastops, said the town. While payment comes from the water department budget, a final total will depend on actual quantities used over the one-year period.
In another matter, the council approved execution of a joint funding agreement for the Illinois Department of Transportation-funded construction of the shared-use path project at Chiddix Junior High School.
The multi-use path would stretch from the Karin Drive pedestrian bridge over Sugar Creek to Chiddix, helping to create an accessible route to school that is not next to the traffic-heavy College Avenue corridor.
The council also listened to concerns from Glenn Elementary parents who requested council support for a Unit 5 enrollment solution that excludes relocating Glenn students to Sugar Creek Elementary School.
The move would make room to move transitional services program from Eugene Field School to Glenn.
Public commenters requested that the town release a statement in support of their position.
