The water tower is near the intersection of Willow and Main streets on the Illinois State University campus.

The Normal Town Council on Monday approved a license agreement with the Illinois State University Board of Trustees for the Main Street water tower.

The Town of Normal operates the tower, but it is located on ISU property. The agreement includes an initial term of 10 years with an additional 10-year renewal term. The annual licensing fee for the Illinois State logo featured on the tower is $150, an increase of $50 from the previous agreement.

The town council, in a 15-minute meeting, also approved a measure to extend a municipal insurance agency program.

The Municipal Insurance Cooperative Agency [MICA] is an agency risk pool of municipalities and other public entities in Illinois. The program provides insurance coverage, including general liability, automobile liability, property, workers’ compensation, tax interruption, public officials liability, employee benefits liability, criminal acts and cyber liability to the town.

The renewal cost of about $2.5 million is under budget by $235,000.

The Town of Normal approved the purchase of a new Ford Explorer for the fire department.

The council also approved a $48,385 purchase of a Ford Explorer for the Normal Fire Department.

A Ford F-350 truck that was expected to be in need of replacement was inspected and found to have at least a few years of remaining life, which freed up money in the budget to pay for the Explorer that will be be purchased from Sutton Ford, of Matteson, Illinois.
