A McLean County jury has convicted a Bloomington man accused of a fatal shooting in Bloomington almost five years ago.

Osman McLaurin, 29, was found guilty of first-degree murder involving a firearm and additional weapons charges related to the killing of 30-year-old Geoffrey Rowry on Nov. 4, 2021. Rowry was discovered by police in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 800 block of East Washington Street. Authorities said he was transported and later died from gunshot injuries at the hospital.

McLaurin was arrested in 2023 while serving a 7-year prison sentence for unrelated weapons offenses. Detectives traveled to the state prison in Jacksonville to serve the arrest warrants following a nearly two-year investigation.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 3 in McLean County Judge Jason Chambers' courtroom. A firearm enhancement on the murder charge makes McLaurin eligible for a term of 45 years to life in prison.
