County Rolls Out Mental Health Forum

McLean County Government is planning a behavioral health forum as part of its continued focus on mental health issues.

County Board Chair John McIntyre said it will be May 18th."It's a good chance for us to bring all of our service providers together, We believe it's necessary. We wanted to be sure we had all the major players involved,." said McIntyre.

McLean County's initiative to increase services for those with mental illness is nearly a year old. It's being partly funded by municipal sales taxes. McIntyre said they hope to help the public to see what is going on with sales tax money earmarked for mental health and jail reconfiguration.

"To eliminate any stigma about mental health. To talk with the public about the need for what we are doing with the building of the jail. The need for crisis stabilization units and the need for working with the homeless," said McIntyre.

McIntyre said he foresees a proposal for better coordination of intensive services to some of the highest users of the human service agencies coming to the board in the next couple months.
