One Person Shot Overnight On Bloomington's West Side

Eric Stock
The shooting happened in the 600 block of West Jefferson Street, Bloomington Police said.

A man was injured early Tuesday by gunfire on Bloomington's west side, police said.

The shooting happened around 1:12 a.m. at 607 W. Jefferson St., Bloomington Police said. The 26-year-old man's leg injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

"An investigation will attempt to determine if the shooting was intentional or accidental," Bloomington Police said on Facebook.

That location on Jefferson Street is just three blocks away from another shots-fired report Sunday night. That incident happened in the 800 block of West Washington Street. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots but no one was injured. The suspect was described as a black male, 15-16 years of age, with a mustache and long-braided hair.

Nobody has been arrested in either incident. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (309) 820-8888, or Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111 to remain anonymous.

Tuesday's shooting is one of several incidents of Bloomington-Normal gun violence in the past three months. Seven people have been killed in shootings since April 25, and several others have been injured. One person was shot last week in north Normal—the same night as a GLT event about the rise in gun violence in the community.
